Since I got married we started the tradition of spending Christmas with Bobby’s family and New Year’s with mine. We’ve been to NY, Panamá and Colombia the past three winters and this time we wanted to visit some place new.
Since my parents came to spend the holidays with us we decided to stay inside the U.S.
First we talked about going to Las Vegas but we’ve all been there so I came up with the idea of going to Nashville. There’s something about that place that I’ve always been curious about so I thought that this might be a great opportunity to do so.
My parents have never been there either and since the weather is not that bad during the winter we booked our tickets without giving it too much thought!
I found the city to be pretty interesting. We were surprised with all the new constructions and modern buildings around downtown… I can’t imagine how the Music City used to look like 20 years ago!
Here’s what we did during our visit:
Day 1: when I found out there was Barry’s Bootcamp in Nashville I knew I wanted to hit it as many times as possible, so I took my mom with me and she loved it! For our post-workout recovery we grabbed a smoothie from Juice Bar, which is conveniently located next to Barry’s. Then we decided to visit Franklin. We’ve heard so many good things about this small town that we wanted to see it by ourselves. We had lunch there at a very yummy restaurant called Gray's and walked around Main St. For dinner we went to Kayne Prime where surprisingly they were very accommodating and even offered me a vegan plate with farro and tons of veggies!
Day 2: back to Barry’s with my mom! Then we went to the Country Music Hall Of Fame where we saw many amazing things, including Elvis’ gold Cadillac. Afterwards Bobby and I went for lunch at The Wild Cow, a vegan restaurant on East Nashville. We had some delicious food including a spinach and artichoke dip and a raw vegan lime/spirulina cheesecake. For dinner we went to The Palm and then received the New Year’s on Broadway St. with hundreds of other people!
Day 3: Happy New Year! I wanted to go for breakfast to The Urban Juicer but the location near to my hotel was closed so I ended up wondering around and discovered the amazing Daily Juice where I had a delicious pitaya bowl and a juice. Then Bobby and I went to the Johnny Cash Museum, which ended up being his favorite. There were a lot of cool personal items so I really enjoyed it too! For dinner I wanted to go to City House but I couldn’t get a reservation so we ended up at Morton’s… Yes, another steakhouse! One of my daddy’s favorite :)
Day 4: Last day in Nashville ended up with another great workout session at Barry’s followed by another smoothie at Juice Bar. Then I had lunch with Bobby at Trattoria IL Mulino where I had a delicious salad! That afternoon we visited the Musicians Hall Of Fame, which was pretty incredible, and then we walked around the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. For dinner we went to Virago and this ended up being everyone’s favorite dinner spot. We joked about how we could’ve eaten dinner there every night without repeating a thing on the menu! If you have the opportunity to visit it make sure you order the side of mushrooms… So good!
My daddy made 4 different hotel reservations and we ended up staying around downtown, which seemed like the best place to get around town!
To many more new destinations in 2017!
